Community Guidelines
These Community Guidelines explain what’s okay (and not okay) on Tangled. They exist to protect our community and keep interactions respectful, consensual, and safe—both online and offline.
Introduction & Scope
| Purpose | Protect our community and set clear behaviour standards. |
|---|---|
| Applies to | tangled.app, our mobile apps, web experiences, and any official community spaces. |
| Minimum age | 18+ (no exceptions). |
| Enforcement | We use warnings, content removal, feature limits, suspensions, and bans. |
These Guidelines complement (but don’t replace) our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Core Principles
- Respect: Treat people how you want to be treated. No harassment, hate, or degrading language.
- Consent: Everything—from messages to meetups—must be unambiguous and reversible. Stop when someone says stop.
- Safety: Use built‑in tools, verify carefully, and prioritise your wellbeing online and offline.
- Authenticity: Be truthful about who you are and what you want. No impersonation or fake engagement.
Profile & Identity Standards
- One real person
- One account per person. No shared, transferred, or duplicate accounts to bypass limits.
- Accurate info
- Use your own photos and details. No impersonation, catfishing, or misleading claims (age, relationship status, achievements).
- Names
- Use a name you go by in real life. No obscene, hateful, or doxxing content in names or bios.
Photos & Media Rules
- Use recent photos of yourself that match your appearance.
- Ensure everyone pictured consents to being shown.
- Blur or hide sensitive info (IDs, addresses, license plates).
- No nudity, explicit sexual content, or fetish content intended to arouse.
- No minors (including yourself as a minor) in any context; no child‑like sexualised imagery.
- No gore, graphic violence, weapons displays meant to threaten, or illegal drug imagery.
Artistic or educational content may still be restricted if it risks user safety or violates app‑store rules.
Messaging & Interaction Etiquette
- No unsolicited sexual content or explicit images.
- No harassment, bullying, or pressure for photos, money, or meetups.
- No threats, slurs, or demeaning remarks about protected characteristics.
- Don’t spam, mass‑message, or automate interactions.

| Sexual exploitation | Any content involving minors; non‑consensual sexual content; revenge porn. |
| Adult content | Explicit nudity, pornographic material, fetish content intended to arouse. |

- No multi‑level marketing, affiliate spam, or paid escorting/sexual services.
- No off‑platform payment links designed to deceive (fake verifications, fake tickets, etc.).
Location, Meetings & In‑Person Safety

- Arrange your own transport; keep your phone charged.
- Verify profiles before meeting; trust your instincts.
- Sharing home address or live location with new matches.
- Going somewhere isolated or accepting rides from strangers.
- Disabling in‑app safety features or reporting tools.
Age & Minor Safety
- Tangled is strictly 18+.
- Content sexualising minors or appearing to do so is banned.
- Report any suspicion of underage use; we will act and may notify authorities.
Reporting, Blocking & Evidence
Use in‑app tools to report profiles, messages, or photos that violate these Guidelines.
- Report
- Flag the exact message/profile and choose the closest reason.
- Block
- Blocks prevent further contact and remove the chat for you.
- Evidence
- Keep screenshots and order IDs if needed; don’t confront dangerous users.
We prioritise imminent risk, credible threats, and minor‑safety reports.
Enforcement Process
| Severity | Typical actions | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Low | Warning, content removal | Spammy messages, mild rudeness |
| Medium | Feature limits, temp suspension | Harassment, impersonation, repeated spam |
| High | Permanent ban, device/account blocks, law‑enforcement referral | Minor endangerment, sexual exploitation, credible threats, severe hate |
We may act based on behaviour on and off Tangled when it poses a safety risk.
Appeals & Reinstatement
If you believe we made a mistake, you can appeal a moderation decision.
- Appeal via in‑app Help or our web form with relevant details.
- We review appeals in good faith and may restore content or access.
- Repeated or egregious violations are rarely reinstated.
Creators & Community Features
Features that allow wider sharing (e.g., profiles in promos or events) require higher standards.
- No misleading edits or false claims.
- Obtain rights for music, photos, and other media you share.
- Follow any extra rules shown in the feature flow.
Self‑Harm, Suicide & Crisis Support
Tangled does not allow content that promotes, instructs, or normalises self‑harm or suicide. We take reports seriously and act to protect users who may be at risk.
| Not allowed | Examples (not exhaustive) |
|---|---|
| Encouragement or instructions | Urging someone to harm themselves; step‑by‑step methods; sharing lethal dosages. |
| Graphic or romanticised depictions | Images or descriptions that glorify, fetishise, or normalise self‑harm/suicide. |
| Self‑harm as coercion | Threatening self‑harm to manipulate, extort, or control others. |
| Jokes that target vulnerable users | Taunting or mocking people for discussing mental health or crises. |
Allowed with restrictions
- Supportive, recovery‑oriented discussion that does not include instructions, trigger details, or encouragement.
- Sharing general mental‑health resources and coping strategies in a compassionate, non‑judgmental way.
If someone may be at risk
- Report
- Use in‑app reporting on the profile/message. Choose the closest reason (e.g., “Self‑harm or suicide risk”).
- Block
- Block to stop contact while we review.
- Evidence
- Keep screenshots and message timestamps if safe to do so.
We may limit features, remove content, or suspend accounts to prevent harm. Where legally permitted and appropriate, we may escalate imminent‑risk reports to emergency services.
Bullying, Harassment & Abusive Conduct
Tangled is a space for respectful connection. We do not allow bullying, targeted harassment, or behaviour intended to shame, intimidate, or silence another person.
| Not allowed | Examples (not exhaustive) |
|---|---|
| Targeted harassment | Repeated insults or slurs directed at a person; dog‑piling; coordinated brigading; mass‑reporting as abuse. |
| Degrading or shaming | Body‑shaming, appearance‑based insults, mocking disabilities, immigration status, or trauma. |
| Threats & intimidation | Threats of violence, doxxing threats, blackmail, stalking, or implying surveillance. |
| Hate speech | Attacking people for protected characteristics (race, caste, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, etc.). |
| Harassment off‑platform | Following someone to other apps to continue abuse; posting their private info (doxxing). |
Allowed with restrictions
- Good‑faith disagreement or critique of ideas without personal attacks or protected‑class insults.
- Neutral moderation notes, counterspeech, or setting boundaries (e.g., “Please don’t message me again”).
- Sharing experiences of being bullied or harassed, provided you don’t encourage harassment of others.
If you’re being bullied
- Report
- Use in‑app reporting on the message/profile and choose “Bullying or harassment”.
- Block
- Blocking immediately stops contact and hides the chat for you.
- Preserve evidence
- Keep screenshots and note timestamps. Do not retaliate.
- Adjust settings
- Use safety tools (message filters, photo controls) and limit who can contact you.
Enforcement ranges from warnings and content removal to feature limits, suspensions, and permanent bans. Severe or repeated harassment—especially involving protected characteristics—typically results in a ban and may be escalated to law enforcement where legally permitted.
